Director of Facilities

The Institute for Human Services (IHS) is Hawaii's most comprehensive human services agency dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness. For 48 years, we've been at the forefront of creating tailored solutions for those in crisis, offering a continuum of care that includes emergency shelters, housing programs, health services, employment assistance, and outreach.

Summary:

This position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of IHS facilities. Manages relationships with external vendors related to construction, building maintenance, renovation and capital improvement projects. Provides oversight of the maintenance team, IHS equipment and vehicles and works collaboratively with leadership and operations to ensure program needs are met.

Essential Duties:

  1. Demonstrate excellent customer service consistent with the organization’s values and its Mission and Vision.

  2. Create and maintain an environment of trust and respect between staff and guests who participate and assist with projects.

  3. Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance projects for Maintenance team; maintains all equipment used to operate the shelters including company vehicles.

  4. Oversee facilities expenses, manage budget; approve the supply purchasing/repair orders.

  5. Negotiate and oversee outside contractors for shelter improvement projects; manage capital improvement and ongoing maintenance/upkeep projects funded by various sources including but not limited to CDBG, Stipend and other government contracts.

Compensation:

Starting from $80,000 annually, actual pay commensurate with experience.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of facilities management, building codes, repairs and maintenance.

  2. Principles and practices of developing a team motivating employees and managing in a team environment.

  3. Able to effectively project manage and ensure repairs and projects stay within budget and timelines.

  4. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

  5. Possess personal qualities of integrity, patience and commitment to mission.

  6. Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Three to five years of management and facilities experience.

  2. Strong project management experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. Seven to ten years facilities management experience in large scale group living setting; some experience working in an environment servicing disenfranchised and/or medically fragile clients.

  2. Valid Driver’s License and clean traffic abstract.

  3. CPI certified or able to pass at IHS.

  4. CPR and 1st Aid certified or able to certify through IHS.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Regular full time classification. Generally Monday through Friday and some weekends/after hours. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the consumers and the organization.
