Employment Program Associate

The Institute for Human Services (IHS) is Hawaii's most comprehensive human services agency dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness. For over 45 years, we've been at the forefront of creating tailored solutions for those in crisis, offering a continuum of care that includes emergency shelters, housing programs, health services, employment assistance, and outreach.

The Employment Associate ensures that the Employment Program has the administrative support necessary to ensure IHS guests and clients receive the training and services necessary to gain employment. This position follows through, working with the community, employers and populations of various comprehension abilities to ensure successful outcomes.

Compensation:

Starting from $19.00 hourly, actual pay commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrate excellent customer service consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
  2. Provide administrative and coordination support to the employment program with pre-vocation, vocational skills, employment readiness training.
  3. Model appropriate work behaviors and provide assistance to guests/clients in skills learning activities.
  4. Ensure the safety and welfare of participants during service-learning activities.
  5. Track, document and report on vocational assessments and job placement statistics.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Strong interpersonal, motivational and communication skills and able to work with individuals of varying comprehension levels.
  2. Computer proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  3. Able to follow instructions, complete tasks in a timely manner, work collaboratively and establish good guest/volunteer rapport.
  4. Possess personal qualities of integrity, patience and commitment to mission.
  5. Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. CPI, CPR/First Aid/AED certified or able to pass within the first 90 days of employment.
  3. Experience with office coordination, working with homeless or other disenfranchised individuals.
  4. Possess valid driver’s license with clean traffic abstract that meets current agency standards.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Regular Full-time classification. Generally, Monday through Friday, with some evenings and/or weekends dependent upon employment or training activities scheduled. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the organization.
