Nursing Assistant

Department: Homeless Triage Center-HTAT
Location: Honolulu, HI

The Institute for Human Services (IHS) is Hawaii's most comprehensive human services agency dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness. For over 45 years, we've been at the forefront of creating tailored solutions for those in crisis, offering a continuum of care that includes emergency shelters, housing programs, health services, employment assistance, and outreach.

The Nursing Assistant performs basic patient care functions under the supervision of the RN or medical provider. This position conducts front office duties in accordance with policies and procedures. The Nursing Assistant creates and manages guest records, schedule appointments, conduct routine tests, and track and order supplies.

Compensation:

Starting from $16.50 hourly, actual pay commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrate excellent customer service consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
  2. Answer patient/client calls while on shift and determine how to best help them.
  3. Provide physical support for patients/clients with daily activities and personal hygiene.
  4. Ensure patients or residents receive an appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  5. Examine patients to detect issues requiring medical care and remind patients to take medications and nutritional supplements; Note observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses and report significant guest symptoms and take appropriate action, if necessary, under the supervision of the RN or medical provider.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of medical/nursing best practices and equipment to administer patient care.
  2. Strong computer and data entry skills and able to document in the systems of record per contract requirements.
  3. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  4. Possess personal qualities of integrity, patience and commitment to mission.
  5. Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification/CPR
  2. One (1) year experience working in community health.

Expected Hours of Work:

Hours include some evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the organization. Must be available to work one or more of the following shifts as scheduled:

  • 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM
